Rhaegar Targaryen is the son and heir of the last Targaryen King,
Aerys II the Mad. Like all of his bloodline, he possesses the
unique looks of the Valyrian princes, silver hair and indigo eyes.
He gets killed by Robert Baratheon who later also takes the crown
and the Iron Throne of Westeros, thus ending the rule of the Dragon
Princes.
We learn about Rhaegar only from other people telling about him,
but the picture painted of him in the beginning - the mad prince,
rapist and kidnapper of Lyanna Stark - soon fades and we get to
learn more about who he really was: a sensitive but strong man
with a great love for music and poetry. A great warrior who would
have turned into a good and wise King.
The revolution of the houses Baratheon, followed by Stark and
Lannister, however ended the Targaryen hope for a better future.
At the Trident, the Opponents Robert and Rhaegar met and fought,
and in the end, Robert managed to strike down his enemy, crushing
his chest with his hammer and sending him down the river.
Many stories have been told about Rhaegar Targaryen. There are
many who say he was mad like his ancestors, and that he abducted
an innocent young girl. Some say, that Rhaegar and Lyanna were
in love. Truth is, that only time can tell if the mysteries surrounding
Rhaegar will ever be unfolded.
